AUSTRIA - LITTLE TRAINS AND BOATS OF THE TYROL

Staying at the Tyrol Hotel, Soell

Saturday 2nd – Saturday July 9th 2011

8 Days

 

Day 1

Following an early start we travel to Dover for our short sea crossing to Calais. On arrival we rejoin our coach and travel through France via Reims and onto Metz where our overnight stay is at the Hotel Restaurant Metz Technopole.

 

Day 2

This morning we continue our journey through France towards the German border. We cross the river Rhine and travel via Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Ulm and on passing Munich. Soon the Bavarian Alps come into view and later we cross the border into Austria and pass Kufstein as we head into the Tyrol region to the pretty town of Soell. Here we spend five nights at the popular Tyrol Hotel.

 

Day 3

Today we drive to Rattenburg the smallest town in the Tyrol famous for it’s crystal manufacture. Stroll around the town with it’s medieval appearance, view the castle or enjoy a coffee before rejoining the coach for the journey to Jenbach. At Jenbach we board the Achensee narrow gauge steam train for a journey to Seespitz. From Seespitz  we head to Achensee to cruise on the largest and most beautiful of the Tyrolean lakes. We then rejoin our coach for a scenic drive back to the hotel where we spend the rest of the day at leisure.

 

Day 4

Today we make the journey to Mayerhofen, a lovely town in the heart of the Ziller Valley. We have time here to take a look around the town, enjoy a coffee or maybe take a cable car ride to one of the mountains. We then board the Ziller Valley railway for a journey through this beautiful area en-route for Fugen. We have live music and Schnapps tasting on board to add to the pleasure of this trip.

 

Day 5

This morning we have a scenic drive en-route to the well known summer resort of Zell am See. This pretty town with its medieval centre is nestled on the shores of the lovely Lake Zell. Here we enjoy a panoramic boat cruise on the lake we also have time to explore the town. Later we return through the Salzach Valley and over the Thurn pass to the Alpine resort of Kitzbuhel, this stylish town has a pleasant pedestrian area with a relaxed atmosphere. Afterwards we return to our hotel.

 

Day 6

At Leisure in the lovely resort of Soell.

 

Day 7

Today we leave this lovely region and commence the homeward journey travelling, once again, through Germany into France and onto Metz. Here we spend our last night at the Hotel Restaurant Metz Technopole.

 

Day 8

After breakfast we leave our hotel and make our way to Calais for our return sea crossing to Dover. On arrival we rejoin our coach to make our homeward journey arriving during the evening.
