Day 1
We board our coach this morning for a fairly early start on our journey to Dover, making a refreshment stop en route. We reach Dover and board our ferry for the short sea crossing to Calais. After disembarking the ferry we continue our journey to Brussels and our three night stay at the Hotel Thon City Centre and our visit to the Carpet of Flowers. Every two years for just three days the Grand Place is transformed into this floral spectacle. The Carpet of Flowers is made up of 3000 begonias per square metre, and nearly a million flowers in total, and is created by skilled craftsmen, by hand. This tour is on a bed and breakfast basis as there is an enormous choice of restaurants in the surrounding area.
Day 2
After breakfast we make a leisurely walk to the Town Hall in the Grand Place where we have tickets for viewing the Carpet of Flowers from the Town Hall viewing Balcony. This is without doubt the best place to photograph or video this exceptional horticultural work of art. We will have free time to enjoy the Grand Place, have a close up view of the floral art and maybe have lunch or a coffee. This afternoon why not join one of the open top buses for a tour of Brussels. The hop on, hop off arrangement gives you access the Atomium, the Royal Palaces, the Galleries Royales St Hubert, (the first shopping arcade in Europe) or maybe a visit to a chocolate factory for those delicious Belguim Chocolates.
Day 3
Today we have an all day excursion to Bruges, an opportunity to enjoy this beautiful city considered to be one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe. See architectural masterpieces such as the town hall and medieval town houses. Take a stroll or a horse drawn carriage ride from the market square and enjoy exploring cobbled streets, gardens, and canals, perhaps visit one of the 23 museums or take a sightseeing canal cruise.
Day 4
We leave Brussels this morning and make our way to Calais for our return ferry to Dover. On reaching Dover we rejoin the coach and make our homeward journey arriving by early evening.
