CHRISTMAS IN SWITZERLAND -
Staying at the Eurotel Victoria Hotel, Villars
Wednesday 21st – Wednesday 28th December 2011
8 Days
Day 1
Following an early start we travel to Dover where we board the ferry for the short sea crossing to Calais. On arrival we rejoin our coach and travel through Northern France to Reims, here we spend the night at the Hotel Quality, Reims.
Day 2
This morning we continue through France and the Champagne region and on passing the city of Nancy, we continue via the Alsace region crossing the Vosges Mountains towards the city of Mulhouse and on to the Swiss border at Basel, from here we travel via the capital city of Bern and on to the mountain resort of Villars, here we spend five nights at the Eurotel Victoria, the hotel occupies a position close to the centre of Villars and has an indoor swimming pool and leisure area. We have a welcome drink on arrival.
Day 3
This morning we board our coach and travel to the popular resort of Montreux, situated on the shores of Lake Geneva. In the old town there is a nice selection of shops selling the usual, quality, Swiss goods, a perfect opportunity to get that last minute gift. Along the quay there are some nice walks where many trees and plants, some sub tropical , flourish due to the mild climate. En route we pass Chillon Castle on the lakeside. This 13th century castle is one of Europe’s best preserved medieval castles. We later return to our hotel and this evening we have a guided torchlight walk around Villlars.
Day 4 Christmas Eve
Today we have “at leisure” in Villars to relax and enjoy the lovely scenery in this region. This evening we will also have a Christmas buffet meal and cakes, hot wine or hot chocolate and there will be music in the bar.
Day 5 Christmas Day
During the morning we have a cable car ride arranged to take us to one of the many snow covered peaks. We return to have a Turkey lunch (not traditional British Turkey Lunch). During the afternoon please join us for a drink and Christmas cake. This evening we will have music and dancing to round off our Christmas Day and we will find biscuits and chocolate in our rooms when we retire for the night.
Day 6 Boxing Day
During the morning we board our coach and travel into the mountains to the popular winter resort of Gstaad. After some time at leisure here we have a train ride to Montreux and then return to our hotel by late afternoon.
Day 7
This morning we leave this lovely area and commence the homeward journey. We travel via the border city of Basel into France and on passing Strasbourg, Metz and on to Reims. Here we spend our last night at the popular Mercure Hotel.
Day 8
After breakfast we travel to Calais where we board the ferry for the return crossing to Dover, here we rejoin our coach and continue our journey towards home, arriving by early evening.
