Day 1

After joining our coach this morning we travel northward through the Midlands to our hotel at Manchester airport. Day 2

This morning we visit Manchester Airport where Concorde G-BOAC, pride of the British Airways supersonic fleet, is displayed in all her glory. Spend time in the cabin and cockpit. appreciate her power, majesty and sheer supersonic luxury. Learn about the aircraft’s famous passengers and where the Queen sat when she flew on Concorde. Also visit the only fully accessible flight deck in the world. Our next visit is to Tatton Park, home of Lord Egerton of Tatton who was chairman of the Manchester Ship Canal Company. The 19thCentury house is opulently decorated with many antiques and fine furniture. 200 years of history and grandeur is to be seen in the grounds. The Rose Garden, Orangery, Italian and Japanese gardens and glasshouses where traditional methods of gardening are still used.

Day 3

The highlight of this tour is a memorable journey along the thirty five mile Manchester Ship Canal. Designed to give Manchester direct access to the sea. In its day it was the largest navigation canal in the world enabling Manchester to become Britain’s third busiest port despite being forty miles inland. The six hour cruise has a lively commentary revealing the history and drama of one of Britain’s major waterways. Taking in spectacular scenery it will leave with you not only how it’s construction shaped Manchester but also the whole of the North West of England.
