DAVOS LAKE ISEO AND THE BERNINA EXPRESS

Day 1

Following an early start we travel to Dover where we board the ferry for the se crossing to Calais, on arrival we re-join our coach and travel to Metz in Northern France, here we spend the night at the Mercure Hotel in the centre of the city.

 

Day 2

This morning we board our coach and travel via Nancy and on crossing the Vosges mountains to Mulhouse and on to the Swiss border at Basel, from here we continue through Switzerland passing the city of Zurich and onto Davos, here we spend three nights at the Central sport hotel.

 

Day 3

A full day at leisure in the lovely resort of Davos, included is the “Davos card” this permits free and unlimited use of local transport, cable cars and mountain railways, we suggest a trip on the Schwarzalp mountain railway for lunch in the panoramic restaurant followed by a visit to the Alpine gardens.

 

Day 4

Today we board our coach and travel to Klosters, the winter holiday destination for the Royal family and then onto Chur. This charming historic town has cobbled streets secret courtyards and a large cathedral, later we return to Davos via Tiefencastel.

 

Day 5

Today is the highlight of our holiday, we board the Bernina Express in Davos and enjoy this fantastic journey through the mountains to Italy, see lakes, gorges and glaciers as well as a series of loops and tunnel that make this one of Europe’s greatest train journeys. On arrival in Tirano we board our coach and travel to Lake Iseo, here we spend three nights at the Iseolago Hotel. This superior four star hotel is situated on the outskirts of Iseo town and near the lake, the hotel offers stylish accommodation and public areas, a wonderful spacious garden with outdoor pool, other facilities include a fitness centre, sauna and solarium.

 

Day 6

Today we visit neighbouring Lake Garda. First we visit the wonderful town of Malcesine with its stunning castle and cobbled streets, for spectacular views across the region it is possible to take the cable car from Malcesine to the summit of Monte Baldo. Later we continue to the picturesque town of Sirmione with its castle perched on the end of the peninsula.

 

Day 7

This morning we visit one of the many winery’s in the Franciacorta Valley, the area is known as one of the best wine growing areas in Northern Italy, following our visit and wine tasting we return to Iseo for an afternoon at leisure. It is possible to arrange a boat trip to Monte Isola, the large Island in the centre of Lake Iseo. No vehicles are allowed on the island and as such there is immense tranquility and an un spoilt nature to the pretty fishing villages of Peschiera Maraglio and Carzano.

 

Day 8

This morning we leave Lake Iseo and travel Northwards passing Trento and Bolzano and on crossing the Brenner pass into Austria we continue via Innsbruck and Inn Valley into Germany and on passing Munich, Ulm and onto Sindelfingen which is close to Stuttgart. We spend the night at the night at the Marriott Hotel.

 

Day 9

Today we continue through Germany passing Karlsruhe as we head towards the French border, crossing the River Rhine we continue

passing Metz as we head towards Reims, in the heart of the Champagne Region, we spend our last night at the popular Mercure Hotel, the hotel is close to the centre of Reims and the beautiful cathedral.

 

Day 10

The last day of this memorable holiday we travel to Calais where we board the ferry for the return crossing to Dover, on arrival we rejoin our coach for the journey towards home, arriving by early evening.
