GERMANY - THE BLACK FOREST

Staying at the Hotel Baeran, Oberharmersbach

8 Days

 

Day 1

Following an early start we travel to Dover where we board the ferry for the short sea crossing to Calais, on arrival we re-join our coach and travel to Reims, here we spend the night at the Campanile Hotel. The hotel is close to the city centre and the magnificent cathedral.

 

Day 2

This morning we continue through France and the Champagne region, our journey takes us via Vitry le Francios, St Dizier and on passing the city of Nancy. We cross the Vosges mountains in the Alsace region and make a lunch stop in the pretty town of Colmar. Later we cross the River Rhine into Germany and the beautiful Black Forest region and continue to Oberharmersbach where we spend five nights at the Hotel Baeren. The hotel has been owned by the Kruber family for over 200 years and guests are assured a very warm welcome, situated in the heart of Oberharmersbach the hotel exudes Black Forest charm with its style and quality of Decor.

 

Days 3 - 6

During our stay in Oberharmersbach we have included various excursions, these are a day to Freudenstadt, built in the late Renaissance style the city lies on a high Plateau on the east edge of the Black Forest, it’s city centre is famous for being the largest market place in Germany. The city is a climatic health resort of international renown. Later we continue to Calw, one of the most noteworthy places to visit in the east of the Black Forest, set deep in the Naglod Valley, Calw is a place of outstanding scenic and architectural beauty. Another day we travel to Freiburg the capital of the Black Forest, a magnificent Gothic cathedral dominates the town square where regular markets are held, we continue to Titisee, a spa town on one of Germanys prettiest lakes. The scenery is breathtaking and it is possible to take a boat trip on the lake, we return via the lovely town of Triberg where there are a host of woodcarving shops. We have a day to the majestic Rhine falls at Schaffhausen, Switzerland, we continue to Constance on lake Constance with time at leisure to explore. We also have a guided walking tour of Oberharmersbach with a visit to a local museum and a visit to Zell am Harmersbach by miniature railway. Don’t forget to enjoy some Black Forest Gateau and coffee.

 

Day 7

 

Today we leave this lovely region of Germany and make our way into France and onto Reims, we spend our last night at the Campanile Hotel.

 

Day 8

After breakfast we board our coach and make our way to Calais for the return ferry crossing to Dover, from here we continue towards home, arriving during the early evening.
