Days 3-6

During our stay in Newtonmore we have included various excursions and steam train journeys so that we can thoroughly enjoy the majestic beauty of the Scottish Highlands. We have a full day on the Jacobite Steam Train - Described as one of the great railway journeys of the world, this 84mile round trip takes us past a list of impressive extremes, it starts near the highest mountain in Britain (Ben Nevis), visits Britains most Westerly Mainland station (Arisaig) then passes close by the deepest freshwater lake in Britain (Loch Morar) and the shortest river in Britain (river Morar) and finally arrives nest to the deepest seawater Loch in Europe (Loch Nevis). The train makes a stop in Mallaig before returning to Fort William to rejoin our coach and return to Newtonmore.

We have a day to Inverness, the ancient capital of the highlands. Two more superb train journeys are included, first we make a trip on the Cairngorm Funicular, the country’s highest and fastest mountain railway and we will be able to enjoy the spectacular panoramic views from the Ptarmigan restaurant, nestled under the summit of Caingorm, later we have our final train journey aboard the Strathspey Railway, joining the train at the beautifully restored Aviemore station to relive the sights and sounds of the steam age. Also we have a shorter day out to the pretty town of Pitlochry where we have an optional visit to one of the Scotlands finest Whisky distilleries. Whilst travelling through the lovely region we will see some of the many locations used in the popular television series “Monarch of the Glen”

Day 7

Today we leave Newtonmore and commence the homeward journey, we make a stop in Crieff which has been a popular resort since Victorian times, later we make our way to Carlisle where we spend our last night at the Cumbria Park Hotel.
